Biography

Gwen Rene Stefani was born on October 3, 1969 in Orange County, California. She had one sister, Jill, and two brothers, Eric and Todd. Her parents were strict, but very loving. Growing up she loved The Sound of Music and Kermit the Frog. In high school her brother Eric formed a band with friend John Spence. The band was No Doubt and Eric told Gwen to sing backup. When John Spence committed suicide, Gwen became the lead singer. The band had a loyal following in Orange County in their early days and released their first album in 1992 with little success. Their next studio release was a different story. Tragic Kingdom was enormously successful and Gwen was a breakout success. Girls everywhere attempted to be like her, dying their hair platinum blonde they were dubbed "Gwenabbes." Much of Tragic Kingdom was about Gwen's relationship with bassist Tony Kanal, which had ended after over five years. While on tour after the release of the album Gwen met Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale and the two have been together (with a couple of off periods) ever since. The two married in 2002.

Gwen and the band continued their successful career releasing Return of Saturn and Rock Steady. Along the way Gwen began collaborating with a variety of artists from Elvis Costello, Eve and Moby. Though still a part of No Doubt, Gwen began to branch out. She released a solo album called Love. Angel. Music. Baby., which spawned many successful singles and started her own line of clothing and accessories, L.A.M.B.. In 2004 Gwen made her feature film debut playing iconic, platinum blonde movie star Jean Harlow in Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator, co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett. Though Gwen's part in the film is very small, she was nominated as a part of the ensemble cast for a Screen Actor's Guild Award.

On May 26, 2006 Gwen and Gavin welcomed their first child into the world, Kingston James McGregor Rossdale. Gwen got back to work quickly, writing and recording for a new No Doubt album and releasing and touring for her second solo album The Sweet Escape.

In 2007, Gwen launched the highly successful Sweet Escape Tour. For two shows, she was joined on stage by her No Doubt bandmates. They began writing and recording during the summer. Gwen also expanded L.A.M.B. to include shoes, watches and perfume called L.
